Harewood Road – traffic signals and water upgrades - Super week information

What

As part of our work to install two new sets of traffic signals, upgrade the watermain and stormwater, and install the minor safety improvements, our contractor is planning a super week of 24 hour work on Harewood Road.

Why

We’re carrying out the super week to minimise the impact and duration of the work. We’re doing this in the quieter holiday period to minimise disruption to local residents, businesses, schools and road users.

Where

The intersection of Harewood Road, Gardiners Road and Breens Road, Bishopdale.
Harewood Road outside Harewood School, Waimakariri Road and Whitchurch Place, Harewood.

When

Sunday 4 January 2026, 5pm to Monday 12 January 2026, 5am for 24 hours a day.

Contact

The contractor is Isaac Construction. Phone Elizabeth Mullan, (Communications Advisor) on 027 406 2465 or 0800 472 222, or email communications@isaac.co.nz.

Detail

The super week will start at 5pm on Sunday 4 January and there will be work for 24 hours a day until 5am on Monday 12 January 2026. This will significantly reduce the overall duration for the work.

Over the super week we’ll be removing the existing road surface, preparing the new road base, installing asphalt and resurfacing the intersection of Harewood Road, Gardiners Road and Breens Road.

We’ll also be resurfacing the road and footpaths and installing new kerb on Harewood Road outside Harewood School, on Waimakariri Road and Whitchurch Place.

We’ll be working for 24 hours a day across the super week.

Traffic Impacts

  • From 5pm Sunday 4 January until 5am Monday 12 January 2026, the intersection of Harewood Road, Breens Road and Gardiners Road will be completely closed to traffic.
  • There will be:
    • No entry to Harewood Road for westbound traffic beyond the Farrington Avenue, Highsted Road and Harewood Road roundabout.
    • No entry to Harewood Road for eastbound traffic beyond the intersection of Trafford Sreet.
    • A road closure on Breens Road between north of Lochmore Street and Harewood Road.
    • A road closure on Gardiners Road between south of Kamahi Place and Harewood Road.
    • Two-way traffic will be maintained between Kamahi Place and St. Ives Street on Gardiners Road, this will allow residents to access their property but will reduce the availability of on-street parking in this area.
  • The properties within the work area will receive further information regarding their access, this information will also be available at isaac.co.nz/projects/ongoing/harewood-road-signals-and-watermain.
  • From 5pm Sunday 4 January, we will also re-establish the one-way system on Harewood Road between Watsons Road and Russley Road/State Highway 1.
  • There will be:
    • No-entry to Harewood Road from Johns Road/State Highway 1.
    • No left turn from Waimakariri Road onto Harewood Road.
    • Traffic will be able to travel westbound only between Watsons Road and Russley Road/State Highway 1.
  • Please allow extra time to avoid delays.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 30km/h through the site to keep our contractors safe.
  • We’ll need to temporarily remove some on-street parking to allow space for the works.

Impacts of work

  • We aim to complete the noisier work during the day or early in the evening.
  • Bus detours will be in place for the routes 8, 27 and 125. Please see metroinfo.co.nz for more information.
  • The nature of the work will generate noise, dust, and vibrations.
  • At times, several footpaths and pedestrian crossings will be closed while our crews are working. When this happens, there will be traffic controllers on hand to escort pedestrians across the road.
  • Access to properties may be temporarily impacted at times. Our team will make access available as soon as possible. For more information, please reach out to Elizabeth via the contact details provided.
  • Please advise if you have any specific property access requirements e.g. medical visits, large deliveries, home help and any planned works, so our team can accommodate these.
  • Please put your bins out as usual by 6am on your collection day. Our team will move them and return them, if needed. You may like to label your bins, so they are easy to identify at the end of the day.

See below map of the areas that we will be working in.
